Because I don’t know if what I’m about to do is going to work. But I think it’s important that I at least try.
So if this IS the last one... I appreciate you more than you know. Thank you for tuning in.
Ok. Now that I got the hook out of the way (and possibly got you to keep reading)... I’m going to keep writing these emails.
The only question is whether the email platform I’m building to replace the one I pay for every year will actually work. Here’s the backstory: The other day I saw a $390 charge on my credit card. And I thought, what in the world is $390? Usually I’m really aware of any purchase or subscription over $100. (I haven’t made it yet, guys. Working on it.) So I look closer and it’s from kit.com, formerly ConvertKit. It’s the email platform I’ve used for several years. BUT this year it was close to $400, when every other year it’s been a little under $200. In the past I might have just let it go. I didn’t have another choice, and sending these newsletters is still really important to me. Even if there’s only 225 of you. I genuinely don’t care. I started writing this when there were zero of you, so 225 is 225 times more people than I started with. That’s awesome. But now I’m capable of building my own platform. That sounds crazy. It’s completely possible though. So I thought about it and decided, heck, why not? You can just do things, right? My weapon of choice wasn’t Claude Code. It was GrokBot. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ve seen me posting more about the agents I’ve been using. If this is the first time you’re hearing about them... we’ve entered the age of agents, and it’s absolutely incredible. A few I use:
Instinctruns entirely out of text messages and connects wherever you want it to.
Museis Meta’s AI agent, so I use it a lot more for social media (Meta pretty much owns social media).
Grok Bot is my all-around utility agent. It’s more integrated with Twitter, and it’s a WORKHORSE.
So I gave Grok Bot the scenario, the task, and how I wanted it done. And it started working. Bit by bit, a complete duplicate of ConvertKit started to form. I found posts, tweets, and comments from other people about what to watch out for when you build your own email platform. I added those to the context, adjusted, and kept building. I didn’t have much time either. November 4th is the last day I can get a refund for the year I just got charged. So it was now or never. As you read this, the platform is built. I’m dripping out a few emails at a time from the new email address I had to create, and warming it up with all of you. So you may or may not have already gotten an email explaining the move.
Today I wanted to dive deep into what this process looked like. And more than anything, show you that YOU can do this now too. Just like the newspaper industry started to fall as the internet took shape, SaaS companies (software you pay for monthly or yearly) are going to fall too. The difference is the newspaper decline happened slowly, over decades. I believe the SaaS decline will be fast. And dramatic.
Software companies will still exist. They just won’t be monopolies on anything. In most cases I don’t think they’ll even be funded by venture capitalists. They’ll be hyper niche, solving one very specific problem. And they’ll be built by people like you and me who aren’t coders or developers and couldn’t write a single line of code. People who have a problem and want to solve it, or who see one and go looking for a solution. These companies might not even last that long. Tech is changing so fast right now that the lifespan of future software companies will be a lot shorter. With that in mind, I want you to know the process has already started. Call it vibecoding. Call it taking things into your own hands. Call it just doing things. Whatever you want to call it, the possibilities are endless now. The limits we have on what we can create are self-imposed. If you can think it, you can build it. So today I’m still sending this from my ConvertKit account. BUT I’m asking you a favor. If you enjoy these newsletters, or you’re at least curious how my journey from law enforcement to entrepreneurship ends up... find the email from my new address and don’t put it in the trash. If you want to reply, that’d be awesome too. And if you’re kind of sick of hearing from me every Sunday, I totally understand. If you made it to the end of this, you are my people. Thank you! Remember, you are capable of far more than you give yourself credit for. You are strong, you’re resilient, and you are meant for greatness. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. Have an amazing Sunday. Hopefully I’ll see you next week.
An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 3.5min Read October 16, 2025 was my last day as a police officer. Listen to this instead: HERE As you're reading this, it's been a full year since I left a career I thought I'd spend 30 years in. I didn't want to spend those 30 years there, but I didn't feel like I had another choice.BUT... I did believe I was meant to do bigger things. So in the background, for those 10 years, I experimented. I tinkered. I chased a lot of shiny objects. So if you...
An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.8min Read If you haven’t seen the movie Slumdog Millionaire... watch it when you can. I’ve referenced it a couple of times over the years, and I believe that movie is a brilliant representation of what is available to each and every one of us in life. I’m not saying everyone is going to make a million dollars or end up on a game show like that. What I’m saying is that as we go through life, every experience we have, everything we go through,...
