Get better at what you love to do the most

3.1min Read

There’s something that has been on my mind quite a bit recently…

And maybe it’s been on your mind as well.

Or MAYBE you’ve had the feeling but haven’t been able to put words to it.

That’s how it started for me, so I’m making assumptions here, but that COULD be the case for you as well.

There were a few things that recently really brought all this to the surface. It’s been the combination of the most recent books that I’ve been reading AND, oddly enough, a Taylor Swift documentary.

But if I’m being honest, this thought and these feelings were there long before. And I believe that they are sitting there close to the surface for the majority of us as well.

It’s the desire to find TRUE fulfillment in the work we do.

This is a feeling that runs deep within us.

The world likes to separate love from work as two separate entities, but I don't think that should be the case. And if I were to guess, most people would agree with me on that… but we are taught the opposite.

We are told that work is work and love is love and that they are separate and it’s rare to love your work. Like some kind of unicorn.

But I only think that it’s rare because we treat it as such. It doesn’t have to be that way.

But this then leads to the question:

HOW do we figure out what we really love to do and earn a living doing it?

Yep, that’s for sure the big question here! And to tell you the truth, I haven’t FULLY figured this one out yet, but I’m getting there. That’s where this recent feeling came from.

The feeling that I’m making the right moves and that I’m in the right place, but that I’m not totally there yet.

Watching the documentary on Taylor Swift hit that home even more.

There was a line from the documentary where her mom says

“Growing up, Taylor never mentioned fame or money. Instead it was just about seeking every opportunity to sing her songs and have everybody singing those same words back to her”

This is what really stood out to me. Using this same concept but applying it more broadly, we need to ask ourselves: “what are our songs that we want to sing?”

What is it that we love to do more than anything?

What do we find ourselves lost in for hours on end?

What do we go to bed thinking about and wake up excited to get back to?

For some of us, this might actually be our work.

For others, this feeling might fall into a hobby that we regularly do

And for another group, this activity hasn’t even come into our lives yet.

So again, the question still remains:

HOW do we figure out what we really love to do and earn a living doing it?

First, you might need to have a tough talk with yourself about the things that you are currently doing that have the opposite effect on you.

  • What activities actually pull you down.
  • What things do you dread doing or give you those terrible Sunday blues about?

Odds are that those things for most people are their regular 9-5 jobs.

I am NOT saying to burn the boats here, but really truly take a look at what you spend most of your day doing and try and gauge how much of it makes you happy. Try as hard as you can to weight your scale more on the happy side.

Easier said than done of course, but it IS possible. I had such strong feelings about being a police officer that I left that career entirely. To the shock of everyone. But it had to be done.

That was one step closer to “finding my songs to sing” and for love to truly overlap with work.

And that’s really what were after here...That’s the real point that I’m trying to make…

We are each born with a level of uniqueness unlike ANYONE ELSE.

And I’m not just saying that. It’s science.

There are one hundred TRILLION connections in your brain. To give you an idea of how big that is, the Milky Way Galaxy has 400 billion stars. And there are 1000 billions in one trillion. Therefore, your brain has more connections than the number of stars in FIVE Milky Way Galaxies…

There really is only ONE of you with the unique combo of connections that you have.

The things you feel, the passions you have, the songs that you want to sing— All of that is unique to you and shouldn’t have to fit in a box. It shouldn’t have to be categorized or standardized or compared to anyone else.

This is a scary concept, but at the same time, it’s freeing.

This opens us up to the idea that we can truly find fulfillment In something. And that it’s okay that it might not be the same fulfillment as ANYONE else.

Let’s bring this home:

  • There’s a feeling deep within that you want to be doing work that you love.
  • You know that you are meant for more and that there is something out there that makes you SO happy to do
  • Start by eliminating the things you really don't like to do (as much as you can) and doing more of the things that you like the most
  • Remember that there is only ONE you out there that exists now and that will ever exist. You don't need to fit into any mold
  • Stay aware and on the look out for the activities that really ignite a passion inside.
  • Don’t settle until you have really truly found those activities.

I hope everyone had an incredible Christmas! I am so thankful for each and every one of you!

Until next time...

Stay in the fight,

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.6min Read Because I don’t know if what I’m about to do is going to work. But I think it’s important that I at least try. So if this IS the last one... I appreciate you more than you know. Thank you for tuning in. Ok. Now that I got the hook out of the way (and possibly got you to keep reading)... I’m going to keep writing these emails. The only question is whether the email platform I’m building to replace the one I pay for every year will actually...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 3.5min Read October 16, 2025 was my last day as a police officer. Listen to this instead: HERE As you're reading this, it's been a full year since I left a career I thought I'd spend 30 years in. I didn't want to spend those 30 years there, but I didn't feel like I had another choice.BUT... I did believe I was meant to do bigger things. So in the background, for those 10 years, I experimented. I tinkered. I chased a lot of shiny objects. So if you...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.8min Read If you haven’t seen the movie Slumdog Millionaire... watch it when you can. I’ve referenced it a couple of times over the years, and I believe that movie is a brilliant representation of what is available to each and every one of us in life. I’m not saying everyone is going to make a million dollars or end up on a game show like that. What I’m saying is that as we go through life, every experience we have, everything we go through,...
