How To Find Your Dream Job

2.5min Read

Right now, in this very stage of your life, are you working at your dream job?

Don’t tune out and archive this email YET, this isn’t a woo-woo style email where I tell you some generic way to live life to the fullest.

I actually don’t know the answers to these questions, BUT I’m actively seeking them and maybe,
JUST MAYBE, some of it will resonate with you as well.

Back to it—

Are you actually living the dream?
Do you wake up in the morning absolutely stoked to do the job that you have?
Is it something that you feel PULLED to do, and you really can’t ever imagine retiring from it?

It’s probably a safe bet that you don’t feel that way… and if you DO, seriously I’d love to know what you do and how you found it.

Most of us probably feel this way:

Bill Gurley - defines a dream job as chasing a career when you have an immense passion for it.

But WHAT does that look like??
I can’t answer that for you, but here’s what I’m doing to figure it out in my end.

— I read a TON. All non fiction, with a purpose of extracting everything I possibly can from the wisdom of the author.

Read these five and then let’s chat further

  1. The Five types of Wealth
  2. What’s Your Dream
  3. Tiny Experiments
  4. Anything You Want
  5. The War Of Art
  • With everything I read, I take tons of notes. Each book has a folder on my phone where I actively work through the topics I’m learning about. This takes the material out of my head and into REALITY.
  • Let’s take this a step further though—You’re not going to know all the answers, if you did, you’d write your own books with those answers. This is for those of us still searching —> Take your notes, a pdf of the book you’re reading and then upload it into Chat GPT and start working through it. I know this sounds crazy, but the clarity that you’ll begin to find by simply working through these topics is mind blowing.
  • Finally, I experiment… a ton! You can argue all you want about focusing on THE ONE THING, but you first have to FIND that one thing. I also don’t think it’s as cut and dry as that. It’s not just ONE thing, but the compounding effect of all the things that you’ve done. Each plays a part in shaping what you’re capable of. Each a stepping stone on the path to your success.

With that in mind, here’s my takeaway— You are living your purpose RIGHT NOW. Scott Adams, the creator of the comic strip Dilbert (the one from above), has written that he wasn’t necessarily the best artist, he wasn’t the funniest dude, he wasn’t the best writer, nor was he the most savvy businessman, BUT he was OKAY at each of those things. And the combo when put together made for a wildly successful career.

Here’s the break down for the rest of this email today. These bites will be small, I promise.

  1. Do things above the level you’re at
  2. It’s okay to walk away from a deal
  3. Mystery-Preneur Link
  4. The AI Juice

Bite # 1
First, watch this
VIDEO

This is a 7 year old that went into Chick Fil A on his own to order. Did you see how excited he was when he came out?? It was nerve racking and scary and also super empowering.

Takeaways—
1. That’s super cool parenting! We need more of this out there.
2. This is how you grow. You do things out of your league. Find the things that are the next level up for you and work through them. She didn’t let him drive the car, that’s too many levels up. It was just ordering food alone. Figure out the next level you want to get to and then just put yourself there.

Bite #2
Whether this is a business deal, a partnership, a project, an investment, whatever… it applies to them all… it’s okay to walk away from it. While you do need to iterate and experiment and try all sorts of things, it’s just as important to know when to quit.

Quitting is kind of a dirty word, so I don’t really like using it. Entrepreneurs like to use the word “pivot”. That sounds more strategic. But the message is the same. If you see that something isn’t working, isn’t going to work or isn’t aligned with your vision, take note of that. Don’t get too far down the rabbit hole with something that you aren’t fired up with anymore.

Yes, easier said than done.

Bite #3

MYSTERY-PRENEUR link

You never know what you’ll get. But it’ll be fun!

Bite #4
The AI Juice 🧃

In line with all this deep purpose work that we’ve discussed, I think this will be helpful.

How many different personality tests have you taken over the years? Have you done anything with them other than glance through the 51 page PDF once, right after?

--> Turn it into something applicable by doing this:

Upload them to a chat with your AI of choice and start a conversation about how to apply this information in your every day life.

  • Have it help you define your strengths from all the different tests
  • Ask how to work through your weaknesses
  • How it relates to the work you currently do or should be doing
  • Let it guide you through difficult decisions or questions that you have

Try it out!

Clarity fuels purpose.

Current Read:

After finishing Tiny Experiments, I dove into “Purpose And Profits” by Dan Koe.

Really good so far! Lots of thought provoking topics. Dan has a way with words that make you realllllly think through things. It’s also a short read. Might actually need to read it twice to completely soak it all up.

Enjoy your doughnut Sunday!🤫

Until next time...

Stay in the fight,

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.6min Read Because I don’t know if what I’m about to do is going to work. But I think it’s important that I at least try. So if this IS the last one... I appreciate you more than you know. Thank you for tuning in. Ok. Now that I got the hook out of the way (and possibly got you to keep reading)... I’m going to keep writing these emails. The only question is whether the email platform I’m building to replace the one I pay for every year will actually...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 3.5min Read October 16, 2025 was my last day as a police officer. Listen to this instead: HERE As you're reading this, it's been a full year since I left a career I thought I'd spend 30 years in. I didn't want to spend those 30 years there, but I didn't feel like I had another choice.BUT... I did believe I was meant to do bigger things. So in the background, for those 10 years, I experimented. I tinkered. I chased a lot of shiny objects. So if you...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.8min Read If you haven’t seen the movie Slumdog Millionaire... watch it when you can. I’ve referenced it a couple of times over the years, and I believe that movie is a brilliant representation of what is available to each and every one of us in life. I’m not saying everyone is going to make a million dollars or end up on a game show like that. What I’m saying is that as we go through life, every experience we have, everything we go through,...
