Sometimes you need to eat the sh** sandwich

What a subject line right?

Don’t worry, I’ll get to that!

This week is going to be ALL bites🍩.

I have a few anecdotes that I wanted to share and instead of spreading them out over multiple emails, I’m sharing the bite sized deets in one.

Let’s dig in.

🍩 BITE 1
SUPER tactical social media

As with everything that I have ever written, it comes from personal experience.

Most times DURING the learning phase. Genuinely. As I learn it, so do you. This is no different.

As I go deeper into my role with Chris Koerener and his content ecosystem, I’m witnessing first hand how a professional puts out content. There are systems and statistics and a genuine method to EVERYTHING we do. Content done right is a business. And that’s what it is with Chris. Our goal is 10 Million cumulative followers across all platforms in 10 months. 10M in 10mo.

While that is a HUGE goal for most, we are half way there right now and the principles that we use apply to all, no matter the size of your following or the impact you want to have.

Here’s how you can do it

  • Create google sheet with the rows being months and the columns being these (see picture). You might have very small numbers, but track them anyway. You don't know until you see it laid out like this. I realize it might take the fun out of the content to have to track the stats, but if you really want to se where you are successful and what content flops, this is how you do it. If you REALLY don't want to do that, but you still want it done, let me know, I might be able to help.
  • Use View stats chrome extension. This is a Mr. Beast powered extension that lets you see how your videos or any other creators videos for that matter match up to previous content. You can see how each individual video performs compared to previous videos to see if you’re on the right track or you need to adjust things. Then you can reference your google sheet and see what other things you need to adjust. https://www.viewstats.com/info
  • I said this on the last email, but you need to experiment. Like a ton! You can’t lock yourself into one platform. Content needs to be distributed to all the platforms so you can 1) learn about the platforms and see what hits differently there and 2) reach all those other audiences that genuinely deserve to hear your message.

🍩 BITE 2
Sometimes you need to eat the sh** sandwich...

This is a lesson I learned from my time as a cop. But this applies to SO many other situations in life. When you’re a new cop, you are the “boot” as they call it. The rookie. The New Guy. You have ZERO seniority and work with dudes that have been there and done that and have earned their stripes. It’s your turn. What this means is that when a call comes out and it’s messy and complicated and you know it’s going to take hours to write the paper and investigate and everything that might be involved— as the boot, you need to take that paper. We’d call it “buying the paper”. If a senior guy was dispatched, the new guy would need to get over the radio and verbally take it from him. Or just get to the call as fast as possible and say “Sir, I’ll take this from you”.

The tradition is kind of silly, but it’s also really impactful. The lesson here is to be willing to take whatever comes your way. This teaches you to handle the worst and know that you can get through it. It SUCKS to take some of those reports and go through some of that, but then you come out the other side with tons of experience. It makes you a better cop.

This is also true in any other aspect of your life. Do the hard tasks. Take on the responsibilities no one else wants. Change the poopy diaper before your spouse does. Take out the trash when you really don't want to. Workout even though it’s cold and early. Eat the healthy food instead of the junk. The list goes on. But the more willing you are to eat that sandwich, the stronger and more resilient you will become.

🍩 BITE 3
From high school "math teacher" to building a "$100M Equipment empire"...

You’re going to see more of this guy in the near future, but I had the privilege of pre interviewing him as a potential podcast guest. He’s awesome! And has an incredible story. Here are the CliffNotes (for any gen z subscribers, CliffNotes was a thing we had to use to summarize books we didn’t have time to read and write a report on)

  • He bought a couch on Facebook and flipped it. The lightbulb went off
  • Moved upon to washers and dryers
  • Then went to mowers
  • Bought 30 and flipped 30 in one summer and was making more than being a teacher
  • Then found a trailer and made $3k in 3 weeks
  • He bought some property with a barn and upped his game even more
  • He now has 10 people working for him, he left his teaching job and is on his way to building a $100M equipment empire.
  • He takes consulting calls for $500/hr

He had ZERO experience prior.
You can just do things.

I usually write them on Thursdays and I literally don't schedule anything else in the early morning so that I can do this. It's a treat. So to think that I ALMOST had AI write this for me is WILD. Mainly because: I never thought that AI would really be able to portray my writing voice. It's not formal by any means. There's random...
