What brought you here?

3.3min Read

My thumbs might end up with carpel tunnel from all the typing on my phone I’ve been doing lately, but it’s for good reason!

One of the new roles I’ve stepped into is the community director for Chris Koerner's Mastermind Group.

So my days have been spent in constant communication with entrepreneurs, old and new as well as people that have that entrepreneur fire inside them and need help bringing it out.

When I say constant, I mean ALL DAY.

Every single new member that pops in I’m connecting with and messaging to help them get plugged in.

With that, I always ask them one thing— “what brought you here?”

It’s a simple question, but has the potential to hold a lot of weight.

And it’s been in these conversations that I’ve learned a ton about the WHY of our members.

I’m sharing these with you BECAUSE these WHYs are universal. As you here the reasons people are taking the leap to build something on their own, MAYBE it will nudge you a bit...

Freedom & Autonomy –
They’re tired of the 9–5 grind and want to build something of their own. They’re trying to find a way out of working for someone else’s dream.

Clarity & Direction –
They want to learn how to start and grow a business — real frameworks, proven systems, and clear next steps.

Inspiration & Energy –
They’re drawn to Chris’s attitude and story. His energy gives them belief that they can do it too.

Community & Belonging –
They don’t want to build alone anymore. They want to be surrounded by like-minded people who “get it.”

Execution & Growth –
They already have ideas or businesses and need tactical help — marketing, AI tools, operations, or scaling strategies.

Learning from Others –
They want exposure to what other members are building so they can model what’s working and shorten their own path.

Accountability & Momentum –
They know being part of a group will help them stay consistent, take action, and actually finish things they start.

Permission to Build –
They’re looking for a place that normalizes taking action — where building, failing, and iterating is celebrated.

I don’t know about you, but all of those HIT.

If any of those resonated, let me know.

— I wish I could do that too

In the wake of leaving my job I’ve had for the last DECADE, I’ve been approached by a ton of my colleagues. It starts out with a look that they give me when they see me walking down the hall. Like the “I just heard something about you” look… then they come up and kind of look around to see if anyone else is there. When they confirm it’s semi private they go “is it true?”. I smile and nod to confirm the rumor. This is where it’s been crazy — EVERYONE I’ve talked to has had the same reaction. In one way or another they’ve said they wish they could do the same. There’s this look of disbelief they have that I’m actually doing it, immediately followed by a “man I wish I do that too. Good for you…”

I say this because it honestly caught me off guard. I knew that I was personally unhappy there, but I didn’t realize that SO MANY other people were unhappy as well. I assumed, but you never know. This confirmed it.

I’ve said this before, but NONE of this will be easy. This is a HUGE leap of faith and a ton of things I’m walking away from… but I’m choosing to carve my own path here. To not be miserable the next 25 years.

To build something on my own terms and truly change the trajectory of my family… at least that’s the plan right?

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.6min Read Because I don’t know if what I’m about to do is going to work. But I think it’s important that I at least try. So if this IS the last one... I appreciate you more than you know. Thank you for tuning in. Ok. Now that I got the hook out of the way (and possibly got you to keep reading)... I’m going to keep writing these emails. The only question is whether the email platform I’m building to replace the one I pay for every year will actually...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 3.5min Read October 16, 2025 was my last day as a police officer. Listen to this instead: HERE As you're reading this, it's been a full year since I left a career I thought I'd spend 30 years in. I didn't want to spend those 30 years there, but I didn't feel like I had another choice.BUT... I did believe I was meant to do bigger things. So in the background, for those 10 years, I experimented. I tinkered. I chased a lot of shiny objects. So if you...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.8min Read If you haven’t seen the movie Slumdog Millionaire... watch it when you can. I’ve referenced it a couple of times over the years, and I believe that movie is a brilliant representation of what is available to each and every one of us in life. I’m not saying everyone is going to make a million dollars or end up on a game show like that. What I’m saying is that as we go through life, every experience we have, everything we go through,...
