You Don’t Need To Know Code To Build Apps Anymore

1.5min Read

I literally built an operational and functional app In about 30min. It’s super basic, but it works and I’m beyond proud of it. I’ll get into the weeds here in a sec.

But first:

This week’s Sunday Doughnuts is in a different format— I’m calling it “Doughnut Holes”. Bite sized reads, full of value and easy to digest. Short and sweet.

If you like it, let me know 😉

How to build apps without knowing code:

This is the Tabata timer that I built at 4am the other morning. ➡ Check this out

I have ZERO code experience, I am not a developer, but I do have a lot of ideas. With the tech available, these ideas can actually be something.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Signed up for Cursor
  2. Downloaded it to my computer
  3. Opened a new project
  4. Typed in the prompt

I’m over simplifying, but it’s NOT much more than that. It looks confusing, but once you understand what certain things do, you can start to navigate easier. And if you’re confused; literally just ask it what something means.

I wish I could say that I’m super smart and know a ton of things, BUT I’m really not. I’m an idea guy who takes massive action. That’s all you need.

How to Create Your Own Luck

Luck is manufactured. It doesn’t just happen. It’s not a wishing well, it’s actually more like a bank account (or investment portfolio). The more you put into it, the better ROI you get. More “luck”.

Here’s how to hack the system:

  1. Do more things. Say yes. Get under comfortable.
What you’re doing here is just increasing the chances for opportunities to come up. I’m not saying overextend yourself, but just be aware that the more you are involved in, the more doors will open. I wrote about this here more: Sunday Doughnuts🍩

  2. Work hard in the darkness
Don’t wait for your “big break” to start working. It won’t ever come if that’s your mindset. Get to work NOW and your break will come.

  3. Shoot your shot
Closed mouths don’t get to eat. If you want something, ask for it. Rarely do people regret taking the shot, but they do regret NOT taking it. The “what if” is hard to shake

  4. Stay in the fight
This happens through following up over time, sharing your insights and what you’re learning, staying connected and on the radar of the people or groups that matter to you.

#3
How are you moving the needle?

What are YOU doing each and everyday to get to where you want to be?

Do you even know where you want to be?

Richard Dawkins writes about this in his book The Blind Watchmaker:

If living things didn't work actively to prevent it, they would eventually merge into their surroundings, and cease to exist as autonomous beings. That is what happens when they die.

It’s easy to fall into the normalcy of life and “blend in”. It’s natural to want to be like everyone else and part of the crowd… but if you’re reading this, I know you want to be greater than that.

The way you do that is to become extremely intentional about WHERE you want to go and then WHAT you’re doing to get there.

If —

  • You want to talk shop about building apps with AI
  • Want to connect and expand your surface area of “luck”
  • Need to talk through how YOU can move the needle in your life

Let me know. I’m here to help.

Until next time...

Stay in the fight,

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.6min Read Because I don’t know if what I’m about to do is going to work. But I think it’s important that I at least try. So if this IS the last one... I appreciate you more than you know. Thank you for tuning in. Ok. Now that I got the hook out of the way (and possibly got you to keep reading)... I’m going to keep writing these emails. The only question is whether the email platform I’m building to replace the one I pay for every year will actually...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 3.5min Read October 16, 2025 was my last day as a police officer. Listen to this instead: HERE As you're reading this, it's been a full year since I left a career I thought I'd spend 30 years in. I didn't want to spend those 30 years there, but I didn't feel like I had another choice.BUT... I did believe I was meant to do bigger things. So in the background, for those 10 years, I experimented. I tinkered. I chased a lot of shiny objects. So if you...

An entrepreneur's recipe for sweet success 2.8min Read If you haven’t seen the movie Slumdog Millionaire... watch it when you can. I’ve referenced it a couple of times over the years, and I believe that movie is a brilliant representation of what is available to each and every one of us in life. I’m not saying everyone is going to make a million dollars or end up on a game show like that. What I’m saying is that as we go through life, every experience we have, everything we go through,...
